"Paint What You Love"

MOVIE NIGHT Dorothy dhunter Adams SOLD

At our art club workshop we were asked to bring in a painting that we wanted critiqued. The painting I brought in was of a series of watercolour techniques on watercolour paper that I wanted to evolve into a painting.

When it came time for my work to be critiqued, I was told to just leave it as it is, a sampler of watercolour techniques. Of course, this did not sit well with me as I was determined to look for some design in my work, transform it into a worthwhile painting.

I saw odd shapes that with a little negative painting could make popcorn. I lifted out the outline of a can of Cola replicating the pop can on the table ahead of me. It was beginning to look like something at the movies. With my stubborn persistence I continued on with a wine glass, bubbles, a ring-mark from a glass, and a film strip and Movie Night was created.

At the end of everyone’s critique, the instructor came by where I was working, looked at the result of my afternoon’s work and commented, "That was not supposed to work."

I am so happy I persevered with this one.
